I have been painting “Big Eyed” gals for a long time thru college and into my professional career. They have changed quite a bit, going from mainly Comic/ Cartoon/Anime inspired subjects to the more doll looking subjects I do now. Eye’s in general has been a focus, pun intended, with my artwork as I guess it is pretty clear to see, double pun intended.
This is a Big Eyed Punk Gal drawing from 2007 for example
This is a Yolandi Dollface painting I did a few months ago
This is what my big eyed “Dollfaces” look like now. I think the update happened a year and a half or so ago when I started to do more warm up paintings before I begin on the more realistic work I do every day. Generally I have been doing these on canvas panels because otherwise I would be overrun with dollface paintings in my studio. So instead I have stacks of little dollface paintings. The look of the subject has changed so much because I have wanted to model the subject more as if a doll was my subject. I have been inspired by artists who customize Blythe, Pullip, and other ball jointed dolls which are more often than not Japanese fashion dolls that artists do some amazing stuff with. In any case that is a bit of a primer on my dollface paintings. If you would be interested in a custom dollface painting. click on my menu on the TOP Right and then click SHOP. I am doing a Black Friday deal for my Dollfaces for a limited time.
